Sinopsis:
‘Mary Shelley’ desvela la historia de la joven Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin (Elle Fanning) y su ardiente y tempestuosa relación con el poeta romántico Percy Bysshe Shelley (Douglas Booth). Ambos sienten un flechazo inmediato al conocerse y ante la oposición de la familia de Mary a su noviazgo, la pareja decide huir, acompañados por la hermanastra de ella, Claire (Bel Powley).
Los altibajos en su relación se agudizan durante su estancia en la casa de Lord Byron (Tom Sturridge) en Ginebra y es allí donde Mary concibe la idea de Frankenstein, cuando, como juego, se propone a todos los invitados escribir una historia de fantasmas.
Pero la sociedad de ese momento concede un nulo valor a las mujeres escritoras y con tan solo 18 años, Mary se verá obligada a desafiar estos prejuicios para proteger su trabajo y forjar su propia identidad.
